Sri lankan style Polos curry

Please note that this not the traditional way of making Polos. This is something that I tried and came out  similar to the one our mom used to make when we are in Sri Lanka.

Ingredients

  • 1 tin of green jack fruit
  • 1 tea spoon of chilie powder
  • 3/4 tea spoon of salt
  • 2 slices of goraka
  • 1 onion
  • 3, 4 garlics
  • 1 green chilie
  • some curry leaves (optional)
  • pinch of turmeric powder
  • 1 table spoon of rosted curry powder
  • some cinnamon
  • 1/2 table spoon of black pepper powder
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
  • 1/2 table spoon of ginger paste
  • 1 table spoon of soy source
  • 1/2 cup of coconut milk
Steps
  • Chop the anion, green chilie and garlic
  • Wash goraka slices and put them in to some hot water
  • Cut the green jack fruit tin and ged rid of the water and put the polos in to a bowl.
  • Then heat the pan and once it is heated add chilie powder and let it roasted for about 1-2 minutes. Once the chilie powder becomes light darker, take the pan out and put the chilie powder to the polos bowl.
  • Then add turmeric powder, roasted curry powder, cinnamon, black pepper, salt.
  • Mix them well and add the goraka slices with the water.
  • Heat the pan again and add some oil. Once the oil is heated, add garlic, anion, green chilie and curry leaves.
  • Add some ginger paste and soy source as well.
  • Let it seasoned for 3-4 minutes.
  • Once the anions become light goldish, add the polos mixture.
  • Add some water if the water amount is not enough ( don't add too much of water )
  • Let it cook for about 20 mins.
  • Then add coconut milk. Make sure you have coconut milk bit thicker than you use for normal curries
  • Let it cook for another 10 - 15 mins.

Now your polos curry is ready to serve :)

This is a picture of green jack fruit tin. This you can find from any indian grocery shop.
